Roofing

A roof does more than accenting a house and protecting you from the weather; a roof must endure wind, precipitation, changes in temperature, rot, mold, and water. Depending on where you live and the climate specific to that area, roofs must withstand many forms of damage.

Types of Roofs

Shingles are the most common type of roofing format and they are available in three different materials: asphalt, laminates, and cedar. Asphalt shingles are the least durable, yet the most affordable and easy to apply. Laminates are more stable and longer lasting than asphalt. Cedar is the most durable and naturally deters rot and mold; however, they are the most difficult roofing to apply. Some less commonly used options for roofing materials include tile, metal, and fiber cement.

Putting down roofing is usually very labor intensive and has many steps that one must take into consideration. Some of these steps are recognizing and measuring the layout, ordering the right size trusses, framing and sheathing the roof, and putting in the soffits. There are more steps than the latter, but just the ones listed sound overwhelming. Hiring a professional contractor to do the job for you would be in your best interest. A contractor would ensure that there would be no mistakes in measurement, because when laying down a roof, accuracy is key.
